Bathtub Will Not Drain

If your bathtub will not drain try first to fix it yourself without spending your money on a plumber. Maybe you may not need to utilize any drastic measures if your bathtub has not completely stopped up. It is really a pain to have a clogged drain but you can fix it with a few inexpensive tools or using things that are around the house.



All drains are constructed in a similar way. The trap is the curved section at the bottom of the drainpipe. Under the sink you can see a ,,U ‘’ shape and in some other cases can look like a ,,P’’. These traps are placed there to prevent the bad smells to go up. In time it can block with food particles and grease for kitchen drains and with hair or soap scum in the case of bathrooms.

The first thing you can do is to look what is the reason of the clocking. Sometimes you can easily reach and take out what is in there. It won’t be a pleasure, but this is the only way. You will have to use a plunger if you don’t se the clog. The pressure should open up the pipe and clear any clog. Try several times.

The next level of escalation, if the plunger will nor work, it would be the plumber’s snake. Through the overflow plate opening feed the snake down the drain. The clog can be either pull out or it will push the clog away. In order for this to happen you have to move the snake back and forth. While moving the snake in the drain try running some water down. Since some clogs are more persistent than others you may have to repeat this process.

Another option to use if your bathtub will not drain is to use chemicals .The only bad thing is that these products are damaging to the environment and are highly caustic. Isn’t lot of fun to clear a blocked drain. Here are some tips on how to prevent this of happening: - to stop hair from going down the drain use strainers. Than unblock a drain, once a month it's easier to clear out a strainer; - small pieces of soap will not dissolve an wash away, so don’t drop them in the drain. They will actually build up in the drain.

Boiling water will wash the grease away. This method is nor good for the toilet. The porcelain can be affected; - Vinegar mixed with baking soda in a half a cup will do miracles for your drain. Once at three month will be enough. Leave it a few minutes and then pour hot water in abundance. The bad smell will also disappear and the drain will run free. So don’t panic if the bathtub will not drain. It’s not such a big deal. Even a woman can do that by herself if she wants to. But if there is a man in the house, ask for help.
